Time Passing Activities and NFTs

NFTs for Completing Time Passing Activities

Have you ever waited a half an hour to be seated at a restaurant? What about an hour to swap the tires out on a car at the tire shop? Playing a game on a mobile device, skimming through some emails or scrolling some social media seem to be the norm nowadays. Pre-having a computer in your pocket era, we remember counting the number of red cars that drove past, or trying to find the letters of our names looking through a magazine. Although some of these activities may like a fun way to pass the time, let’s explore something different shall we?!

Discoverable Objects to Create Collectible NFTs

As we put our NFT minds to work, let’s think of something different that store owners could do at establishments like these that could help people pass time. First, let’s brainstorm for a restaurant. As visitors walk in, they check in and reserve a table. Upon waiting, a QR code is scanned for a digital tour and trivia game around the restaurant. This could also be incorporated into the restaurants app if they had one in an NFT/Game section. This section or the QR code brings up a set of questions, tasks or missions to embark on as they wait. As part of the game, Different objects or pictures (maybe even trivia about the restaurant) are placed around the venue to search for.

Completing a Game for an NFT

As these restaurant-goers are actively searching for carefully placed pictures or signs around the lobby/restaurant, they find and/or read the information presented. Visitors then use a camera on a mobile device to bring the found picture or object into view. As the camera finds the object, a certain task is shown as completed. Complete all of the tasks within the game, head over to the digital scanner kiosk, tap your device with your digital wallet open and the NFT is transferred and appears on the screen.

Certain restaurants that might have a bit more room available, could make their lobby bigger for such activities. Possibly even making a certain section of the restaurant the digital area where visitors come and wait in this designated area to search for missions to accomplish. As to not disrupt the existing, already eating guests, making the searched for objects a bit bigger and able to be seen from afar could help restaurants with maybe not as much room for an extended lobby. Utilizing the zoom on the camera on the device to place the object in view and allow for the task to be completed could actually add to the gaming element. The way that these are set up could be completely up to the restaurant owner and could be fairly simple or very complex depending on the audience or theme of the restaurant.

Other Possibilities of Time Passing Activities

Please keep in mind that this is only a restaurant scenario. This could be done anywhere where visitors spend a significant amount of time waiting for entertainment or services. Think of a tire shop where patrons and even families could wander around the store to find different objects to scan as part of the game to pass time. An ice cream parlor where people are enjoying ice cream and also learning about the way that that establishment makes unique ice cream or comes up with seasonal flavors. Visitors could also scan a different QR code that leads to a YouTube video to watch as a task to complete as part of the game as to the specific way that they mix the ice cream.

Benefits of Having These Activities

As business owners see the benefits and the desire for more and more of their customers to come to their restaurant due to this new, fun and collective way to visit their restaurant, money to create these projects will quickly make up for themselves. Chatter around the community about the new and fun way to wait, will help bring more customers to come and visit. This would also be a very cool opportunity for owners to be able to tell their story with trivia tasks within the hunt. Creating a few of these tasks to be a branding opportunity is a definite plus as well.

Conclusion

With a little bit of innovation, from the business owner, and education for the visitors to have their experience enhanced, this could definitely be a pretty cool thing to help pass the time for waiting. The engagement aspect could add a different element as well. The branding possibilities are killer and the education regarding the history of the establishment is endless.
