NFTs and Car Maintenance

Using NFTs to Help Track Vehicle Maintenance

When we think of other industries that could fit into an area where NFTs could be a possibility, what about our cars? We use cars and rely on them pretty heavily nearly everyday. Let’s look at the maintenance aspect of cars. Repairs, oil changes, tire rotations and so forth. Stay with us here as this may get a little weird/far fetched. We actually think this could potentially be a real thing, down the road, pun intended.

Similar to the way that we’ve described receipts to work, (see article here) a car dealership could issue NFTs showing a certain maintenance (brakes changed, air filter switched out, sensors replaced, etc.) was provided. These could simply be added to the car’s wallet through a QR code type scanning system. Having all of this information from all of the shops or dealerships that have performed services on the vehicle would be beneficial. Not only could it help the dealership to know what has been done on the car, but for potential resale possibilities, it could also help with the authenticity of the scheduled maintenances that have been performed over the life of the car.

Vehicles Having Their Own Digital Wallet

This could also be beneficial for tire shops or oil change service stores. As a service is performed, the shop could issue an NFT to the web3 wallet that is connected to the car for the services that were performed. Much like before mentioned, these NFTs could also be appealing little works of art to add flare or interest. They could also have a certain logo from the shop where it was issued for a pretty cool branding opportunity for the shop.

One other aspect worth mentioning. It would be important that the wallet was connected to the car and not necessarily the owner of the car. This way, transfer of ownership of the car could still have the information needed to prove or show that the required maintenances were performed on the car. This could potentially add value to the car because of the authenticity of the NFTs associated with the car’s wallet on the blockchain relating to the certain services provided over the life of the car.

Conclusion

When it comes to this industry in the car service arena, certain receipts, like we’ve discussed previously, could be a pretty slick opportunity. These ideas may seem a little bit out there and down the road, however; we can definitely see this as a possibility of the future. Interested in learning more about NFTs?
