NFTs at Disneyland
Disney has always been at the forefront of cutting edge technology. Anyone remember Captain EO and the (incredible at the time) 3D technology that came with that? (Rest in Peace Mike Jack) More recently, the Augmented Reality Cartoon characters added into the photos snapped by the photographers around the park. Advanced technology is built deeply into Disney’s DNA. If it can be done, Disney is the one to do it. Read further to see how digital assets (NFT’s) could change the shape of Disney as well as creating a blueprint for other companies to follow suit.
Collectible NFTs As Park Entry Tickets
First off, create an Non-Fungible Token (NFT) as a digital entry ticket. Not too weird nowadays, however; make it an NFT. Simply add it to your digital crypto wallet on your device and you’re good. Not only could this be a really cool/unique piece of digital art, but it could also follow a theme for a certain month, or time of year. Thinking even further, maybe have the NFT entry ticket be correlated with a new ride and for the first week or month that the new ride is open, the entry tickets are commemorative of that ride. (Like the, now, not so new, Star Wars ride and the craze that created.) Thinking along these same lines, what about a movie that is being released during the time of the entry ticket and for the first week of the certain theatrical movie or show from Disney Plus, was connected to the entry ticket theme.
Location Based NFTs Within the Park
Let’s now think about different things that Disney could make NFT’s around the park. Visualize with us, walking down Main Street, digital kiosks (think a QR code reader like a Fast Pass scanner) are placed around the Main Street area giving out “Main Street’ NFTs as visitors place their digital wallet on their phone near them. As visitors move down Main Street and around the rest of the park, entering into different “lands” (Frontier Land, Cars Land, Fantasy Land & Toon Town etc.) more digital kiosks (think of the Costco Membership scanning devices) are placed around for visitors to collect different NFTs. These could be changed out daily or weekly or even monthly, again…potentially related to a certain event or month, or even season (Summer, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day). A connection, as before mentioned, to a certain movie or show that is being released or a ride that is being opened around that time. These would be NFTs that would be receivable just by walking into one of the lands. Open up a digital wallet on your device and tap. Now that your mind is moving, you’re thinking, what about the rides? We like where your heads at, that’s next.
NFTs for All Kinds of Activities
Going to Disney for some families is a once in a lifetime opportunity. For others, it’s a yearly tradition. At any rate, everyone has their own way to do Disneyland. Some families go as far as arranging their tentative schedule throughout the day starting with the rides that have the smallest line etc, thus giving them the most amount if time to be able to take part in as many rides or activities as possible. Think of this; as families meander around the park, they are going on rides, participating in parades, taking photographs with park photographers and even playing games and watching shows. All of these memory making experiences could be given as a collectible NFT.
NFTs After Completing an Attraction
As visitors hop off a ride, digital wallet scanners are placed to give out NFTs showing a date and time that the ride was ridden. Not only is this a pretty cool journal type of entry into families or individuals day(s) at Disneyland, but knowing Disney, it could also be a pretty cool digital art collection in your NFT wallet. After taking part in a parade, playing a game or even watching a performance, upon exit, slide open your digital wallet and scan. At the commencement of the Disney day/week, collectors could have quite library of commemorative NFTs.
NFTs for Certain Celebrated Events
Another aspect of NFTs that could be created for visitors to Disneyland specifically, could be different events going on in their lives. Honeymoons, Anniversaries, Birthdays or even Engagements are popular reasons to visit Disneyland and could also be a digital, scannable NFT for different people visiting. Do you remember your first day at Disneyland? What about the first time you took your kids to Disneyland? A Simple “First Time Visitor” NFT could easily be added to your wallet or even be part of your digital entry ticket. A “Honeymooner” NFT could be scanned as you participate in your day of celebration at Disney. Maybe even a bit more popular of a reason to visit, a birthday. A Simple “Birthday” NFT could be given for those visiting for a birthday.
NFTs Could Be Pin Trading for the Future
Disney also has a huge Pin Trading following. Pin Trading has been MADE by Disney. Imagine the possibilities with the trading of NFTs within the park. Trading between visitors to create a perfect NFT collection for their day at Disney could be the highlight and/or main goal for certain collectors. Cast members could have certain, “limited” or “rare” NFTs each day for visitors to search for or try to collect. This could create a whole new level of collecting for collectors when it comes to digital art.
Disney Has the Potential to be the Leaders in this Space
Now, after explaining all of these ideas, you’re probably thinking; why would Disney put more time and effort into creating all of this when they don’t really have much of a problem getting people to come to the parks? Like mentioned in the beginning, Disney is, and always wants to be at the forefront of technology. Arranging all of these upgrades to facilitate all of this would take time and money. Disney has both. The creation of digital art is difficult and takes artists and talent, which Disney has plenty of. Advertising and catering to those who are interested in these ideas could be a marketing strategy into getting even more people to come to the park. It could also incentivize new visitors due to the uniqueness of it all.
Conclusion
Digital NFTs are becoming more and more popular and as the digital world moves along, they will be more and more accessible. The main issue we are typically seeing right now, is that people don’t understand the possibilities. Not everyone wants to figure out how to create and new digital wallet with cryptocurrencies and NFTs and the learning curve and organization that is involved with that. Disney is the type of company to take on such a massive project to be at the very beginning of combining a real life experience with digital assets. If anyone can do it, it will be Disney.
